Scott Cam apologises for insult, as Shaynna Blaze cops online abuse.

Host is left to apologise for wayward insult -which producers happily let go to air.

The Block‘s Scott Cam has apologised for an insult aimed at judge Shaynna Blaze, despite the fact producers kept it in their final edit.

On Sunday whilst delivering low scores, Cam joked “that Shaynna’s a bitch, isn’t she?” to contestants.

Today he told Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa Blaze didn’t take offence but he rang her yesterday to apologise.

“Sometimes I’m an idiot,” he said. “I do things to get a rise out of the contestants. It was disrespectful – I shouldn’t have done it in hindsight.”

News Corp reports he also called in to Brisbane’s HIT105 to say the comment was “poor judgement”.

“Obviously I said that in complete jest,” he said. “We are fantastic friends and we’ve worked together for a lot of years. She’s incredible.”

The drama comes at a time when Blaze has copped personal abuse online.

A week ago she told Facebook followers,”While I welcome everyone’s opinions, and love how invested you all are in the contestants, I have to say I was shocked at the disproportionate level of hate in many of the responses this week.

“The pack mentality kicked in and, while everyone is entitled to their own own opinion – design will always divide people – differing opinions are not not an excuse for flat out hatred and abuse towards me or my fellow judges.”

She warned followers if comments “are personally abusive or hateful to me, Neale or Darren, I will take steps to make sure my Facebook page remains a positive, welcoming place for people who want to share their feedback constructively.”

Cam’s apology today also doesn’t appear to address that The Block is filmed months in advance, passing through all manner of producers and editors before going to air.

Why did producers include the comment in their final edit?

Or was Cam’s apology due to negative audience response on social media?

  1. This whole stunt is more scripted than WWE, they would’ve known/expected this when they left it in the final edit – how convenient the finale is this week

  2. A grubby ratings grab obviously. And what terrible timing Nine given the Lisa Wilkinson gender pay equality issue brought to the fore last week.

While close friends in private could get away with calling one another this, in a professional setting, on air, from a male to female colleague – there’s no excuse.

    1. I’d hazard a guess that that’s precisely why the comment was “allowed” to go to air in the final edit. They knew exactly what they were doing. The more oxygen this “story” gets, the better.

  3. I am glad this has been brought up. I couldn’t believe something like that would be said, let alone aired. I wouldn’t be very happy if some called me the B word on TV
