Script read-through for Game of Thrones final season looms

A mammoth 10 month production series is about to get underway.

The first script read-through for the final season of Game of Thrones is set for October 9th.

The date was recently revealed by actor Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont) during a Stockholm comic-con panel appearance.

While he currently has no idea what season eight holds, he “would just be happy to be alive and in what I imagine is going to be a massive battle [in which] I then survive or die nobly.”

The final season is rumoured to be a 10 month production period, twice as long as normal, because the principal characters are all converging onto the same Westeros territory.

“We’re all starting to occupy the same territory, we’re all starting to be in the same storylines and so they can’t [have two filming units] anymore,” he said.

“I think this last season will take much longer to shoot because they can only use one unit because we’re all in the same sort of scenes.”

Meanwhile Kit Harington joked that he told a producer to factor in time off for his wedding to his former on-screen love interest Rose Leslie.

“They [the cast] have all got to be there so the whole thing has got to shut down.”

Season 8 is expected to premiere in late 2018 / early 2019.

  1. Based on the fate of ‘Little Finger’ a main GoT character who was uncharacteristically and somewhat unbelievably caught out I do have some fears for how the ending of this show will be handled. Ideally, the laws of fate and probability could have those who deserve to perish a terrible death will live on, GoT is not great on empathy or emotion, the story twists are a big part of its attraction.
