Seven objects to Amy Taeuber article on failings of sisterhood

Opinion piece by former Seven cadet journalist leads to legal letters from network.

Lawyers for Seven have written to former employee Amy Taeuber following an opinion piece she wrote for Mama Mia.

Taeuber, who settled her claim with Seven in February with a cash payment and confidentiality, was back in the headlines last month following leaked audio of a meeting with Seven’s Human Resources.

In the online article published on Wednesday, she now indicates “senior women” had let her down, but other industry colleagues had lent support.

Whilst she didn’t identify the former, The Australian indicates Seven has ­demanded Taeuber comply with her deed of settlement with the network and remove any social media posts promoting the ­article, and undertake not to make “any further statement in any form about Seven personnel which disparages them or injures their reputation”.

So far the article and Taueber tweets pointing to it remain online, just days ahead of the network’s “AllFronts” to advertisers.

Last month Seven issued a lengthy statement following a report on ABC’s 7:30.

It noted, “Seven has a long history of providing career opportunities and promotion of the more than 2,500 women who work for the organisation across Australia.  We reject completely the claim we do not act fairly and supportively at all times with members of our staff.”

  1. Looks like Mama Mia caved and removed the article. Seven (and Nine for that matter) really need to grow a thicker skin in these matters. Did Taeuber name anyone specifically? Probably not. So why is Seven still harassing her to refrain from ‘any further statement in any form about Seven personnel which disparages them or injures their reputation’?

    She’s an aggrieved former employee venting her frustrations at a system stacked against those (mainly females) who complain. She’s not the first to make such claims. And as the saying goes.. ‘where there’s smoke, there’s fire..’. Maybe the network needs to stop trying to silence complaints and start looking at the root causes instead.
