Speaking out a hot topic at Australians in Film Awards

The Sixth Annual Australians in Film Awards took place on Wednesday is Los Angeles and current headlines were also the talking point.

Patrick Brammall (Glitch, No Activity) hosted the event that helps to usher Australian talent into the international market.

The night kicked off with the Screen Australia Breakthrough Award, recognising Australian screen talent who have had major international presence over the past year.

Screen Australia CEO Graeme Mason presented to director Warwick Thornton (Sweet Country) who was absent, but accepted his honour via video. Actress Stef Dawson presented to Danielle Macdonald (Dumplin’, Patti Cake$, American Horror Story, Glee), director Kitty Green presented to Alethea Jones (Fun Mom Dinner), and producer Greg Berlanti (Riverdale, Green Lantern, Blindspot, Arrow) presented to Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why).

Danielle Macdonald said, “There are actually really amazing people in this industry, and I love that people are actually standing up and speaking out right now against people that aren’t, because it brings people that are so much closer together.”

Also honoured were Tim Minchin, screenwriter Luke Davies (Lion, Candy), director Kate Dennis (The Handmaids Tale) and Disney film executives Mary Ann Hughes and Paul Steinke.
