Stan offers SMILF episode early

US comedy starring Frankie Shaw gets a first episode early release.

Stan has released the first episode of US comedy SMILF ahead of its season premiere.

The series, starring writer / director Frankie Shaw, is based on her personal experiences and a short film which won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize. The cast also includes Rosie O’Donnell, Connie Britton and Aussie Samara Weaving.

Future episodes will drop weekly from November 13, same day as the US broadcast.

Based on her Sundance Film Festival Jury Award-winning short film of the same name, SMILF creator, writer and director Frankie Shaw also stars in the semi-autobiographical role of Brigitte Bird, a smart, scrappy, young single mum trying to navigate life in South Boston with an extremely unconventional family. SMILF is an original and fresh new take on motherhood, co-parenting and female sexuality, seen through a raw and unfiltered lens.

The cast includes multiple Emmy winner Rosie O’Donnell in her first series regular TV role as Bridgette’s prideful, outspoken Southie mother, along with Miguel Gomez and Samara Weaving. Guest stars include Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Connie Britton, Mark Webber and Raven Goodwin.

Monday November 13 on Stan.
