Veteran UK actor Roy Dotrice, who had a long career on stage and screen, has died, aged 94.

A family statement said he “died peacefully on Monday October 16 in his London home surrounded by family, including his three daughters, grandchildren and great-grandson”.

In 2012 Dotrice appeared in Game of Thrones as ‘Hallyne the Pyromancer,’ the head alchemist in the city of King’s Landing, but he also narrated the audio books, A Song of Ice and Fire.

During his decades-long career as an actor, he won accolades including a Tony Award and a BAFTA for best actor as Albert Haddock in the BBC adaptation of AP Herbert’s Misleading Cases.

Other TV credits included Touched by an Angel, Sliders, The Lady Musketeer, Casualty, Angel, Madigan Men, Spiderman, Shaka Zulu, Picket Fences, Murder She Wrote, Hart to Hart, Magnum PI, Remington Steele, LA Law, Wings, The Equalizer, The A Team Beauty and the Beast, Space: 1999, Mr And Mrs Smith and Life Begins, and films included Amadeus, Eliminators, The Cutting Edge and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Dotrice was father to Michele Dotrice (Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em) and Karen Dotrice (Mary Poppins).

In 2008, he was awarded an OBE for services to Drama.
