Amazon signs deal with AMC Studios

New titles from AMC Studios will be headed to Amazon.

Amazon Prime Video has signed an output deal with AMC Studios for 28 territories including Australia.

The deal will see Amazon net first window on new titles ahead of any other streaming platform, pay-TV service, or free TV broadcaster.

The Terror a series produced by Ridley Scott about an Arctic expedition gone wrong, is the first title covered by the deal.

“This is another step in our efforts to extend the selection of premium TV shows available to Prime Video members worldwide,” said Brad Beale, vice president of content acquisition for Amazon Prime Video.

Rick Olshansky, president of business operations, AMC Studios, said: “This agreement underscores the high global demand for AMC’s must-have content and franchises and enables us to bring our popular shows to a wide global audience.”

AMC Studios has previously produced Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and Preacher.

  1. The Walking Dead currently airs on Foxtel’s FX channel so presumably any further runs of TWD move to Amazon (unless Foxtel/FX have a life of series deal).

  2. Bad news for Stan who have previously had both first and second run rights to AMC titles (Better Call Saul and Preacher the former, and Breaking Bad the latter).
