Aussies pen US drama for George Clooney

Catch-22 adaptation by Luke Davies & David Michôd will mark ER star's return to the small screen.

Australian writers Luke Davies (Lion) and David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) have written a new 6 part US series which will mark George Clooney’s return to the small screen.

Catch-22, based on the famed Joseph Heller novel of the same name, will also feature Clooney as director.

Set in Italy during World War II, it tells the story of Yossarian, a U.S. Air Force bombardier trying to fulfill his service requirements so he can go home. The novel explored the paradox of requirements where airmen who felt mentally unfit to fly were not obligated to do so, but anyone who applied to stop flying was sane enough to fly, hence the title.

Clooney will play Col. Cathcart, previously played by Martin Balsam in the 1970 feature directed by Mike Nichols.

The Hollywood Reporter notes no network is yet attached.

  1. “”You don’t have to tell me to go ahead. Just tell me it’s a good idea. Okay? Is it a good idea?”

Yossarian still shook his head. “It would have been a great idea if you had gone ahead and done it without even speaking to me. Now it’s too late.””
