Axed: Murder Uncovered

3 weeks after announcing its return Seven crime series becomes a victim of cost cutting.

Seven has backtracked on plans for a new series of Murder Uncovered, just 3 weeks after announcing its return at its 2018 Upfronts.

But the crime investigation fronted by Michael Usher under producer Mark Llewellyn is a victim of cost cutting.

Seven recently announced $25 million in job cuts as part of $105m in savings over the next two years.

Craig McPherson, Seven’s Director of News and Public Affairs, said: “It is never easy to decide not
to proceed with a programme but unfortunately, we have had to make a tough call in these tough times.

“Murder Uncovered set the benchmark in the true crime genre thanks to an extraordinarily talented team. I wish each and every one of them, the very best. It was a great programme and I thank them all for their work.

“As announced at Seven West Media’s annual results and at the company’s annual general meeting, Seven West Media is undertaking a series of initiatives to streamline its business and reduce costs, as is the case across the media sector.”

It isn’t clear how many staff have lost roles following the announcement.

Nine has also not announced a return for its 2017 crime series Murder Calls.

  1. Gee that Mark Lewelynn must have someone watching over him …first the expensive INXS flop now this, but he keeps his job while Seven slash dozens of other toilers – and I’m sure he wouldn’t come cheap ..

  2. Disappointing to read, really enjoyed this show, surely there are more expensive shows not pulling their weight, if I remember correctly this did quite decent numbers

    1. In my opinion, surely if it isn’t on in prime time then it is less important to fund than shows like this. I guess needing to axe stuff like this is why 7 are looking at shedding some of the non rating sport they have in an effort to cut costs.
