‘Bajo’ quits ABC

ABC presenter Stephen "Bajo" O'Donnell quits to become a fulltime presenter for Twitch platform.

ABC presenter Stephen “Bajo” O’Donnell has quit ABC to become a fulltime presenter for the Twitch.tv platform from December.

The Amazon-owned platform allows for live streaming of gaming and video content, with the ability for users to chat and interact.

His departure will end 11 years with the public broadcaster, notably on Good Game and its kids’ spin-off Good Game: Spawn Point.

Earlier this year Good Game co-presenters Hex and NichBoy were poached by Seven for ScreenPLAY but O’Donnell continued with the Spawn Point edition.

He also appeared on Whovians and co-created and performed in ABC ME’s Trip for Biscuits.

Speaking about the audience reaction to the end of Good Game, he recently told TV Tonight, “I had no idea our little show about games had such an impact on people.

“But the curtain always comes down sometime and every moment I got to work on Good Game I never took for granted. I always assumed next week it would be over.”

  1. Good Game had a limited time left away; the ABC was only guaranteeing another 6 months. Games producers are pushing superficial reviews on youTube and trying to obstruct thorough and critical reviews lest they dampen opening week sales and that caused problems. And as Screen Play demonstrates that doesn’t work on TV. Live streaming seems to be the future of games broadcasting.

  2. I’m devastated to see him leave the ABC but have to concede it is time. Good Game had a majestic run cut down in its prime by the ABC not long after their tenth anniversary. I truly believe Bajo to be Australia’s most overlooked TV talent and think Ten would be a good home for him with guest spots on HYBPA (alas, I never got my wish of seeing him on Good News Week which would’ve been gold!). Hope to see him on regular TV again soon. What a leg end!
