Cameras roll on more Rake

Jane Turner, Anthony LaPaglia & William McInnes to appear in Season 5 as Cleaver Greene tackles Parliament.

Season 5 of Rake is now filming in Sydney with Cleaver Greene (Richard Roxburgh) now an independent Senator in a crumbling Federal Parliament.

This season asks if Cleaver will step up to help Australia keep calm and carry on … or add yet more chaos to his life and the lives of those around him?

Jane Turner, Anthony LaPaglia & William McInnes are new cast additions joined by Helen Thomson, Jacek Koman, Tony Briggs and John Gaden.

Returning cast include Kate Box, Matt Day, Adrienne Pickering, Caroline Brazier, Keegan Joyce, Damien Garvey, Sonia Todd and Tasma Walton.

ABC Head of Scripted Production Sally Riley said: “Rake is renowned for attracting the best talent in the business and this year is no exception. I cannot wait to see Jane, Anthony and Tony tear up the screen as they take on the inimitable Cleaver Greene.”

Writer and producer Peter Duncan said: “We’ll do our best with this motley crew of acting vagabonds and one-time street thugs. Some of them have potential. Watch this Roxburgh guy. Maybe one day. God bless the ABC for having faith in the criminal class.”

The Easy Tiger and Blow by Blow production returns to screens in 2018.

  1. I would be excited for this if Rake didn’t instantly go from “Great, will watch again” for episodes 101-301, to “Bad, resent watching” for episodes 302-305. I have no idea how good the episodes after this are.

Most disappointing change in a TV show I know of.

        1. mickshe thanks for recommending Rake season 4. I just finished watching it, and enjoyed it. It is very close to landing on my to be rewatched list with episodes 101 to 301.

      1. Thanks nik c and mickche. Just the sort of responses I was hoping to provoke. Just reserved series four (no idea why it wasn’t called season four) from my local library.

    1. Political career should trigger all sorts of new storylines for Cleaver. The question will be whether it wanders too far off brief. But pretty cluey crowd behind it, so I would be quietly confident.
