Georgie Gardner knocks back Today role

Today yet to confirm new co-host as early morning hours clash with Gardner's young family.

Georgie Gardner has declined a co-hosting role on Today according to a media report.

News Corp reports Gardner told CEO Hugh Marks the punishing hours had ruled her out.

She departed the show in 2014 to spend more time with her young family.

Since Lisa Wilkinson departed the show, Deborah Knight has joined Karl Stefanovic on the show and ratings have largely remained competitive with Sunrise.

  4. I think audience research has put Sylvia out of contention. Georgie would have been a great new host but she was never going to take it. Bec Maddern spent years on Weekend Sunrise so she could definitely to it, but then it affects her Footy Show duties. Sonia’s entrenched in Extra, especially now she’s a mum, so she won’t move. Carrie, Kylie and Sarah are all under contract so it can’t be them. And though they’d never say it, ‘Jacketgate’ will have put Amber Sherlock out of contention also. My money is on Deb Knight staying on in the role – viewers know her, she does a great job and she has good chemistry. That leaves room for some of the others on this list like Julie Snook, Lara Vella and Jayne Azzopardi to take on Weekend Today (although I think Jayne already has).

  5. Surely Sylvia Jeffreys is now the shoe in? At least the easiest option without looking beyond Nine, now Chris Bath and Georgie Gardner have both declined. Just can’t see Deb Knight in the role. Maybe she’ll get offered news?

  7. I still find it strange that when Lisa left they put Deb in the main chair when before that it was always Sylvia who took over the hosting if Lisa was on holidays or days off and Deb did the news?

  8. Pretty sure they will keep Deb Knight in the role with Sylvia as a back up. What would be interesting is if Ten put up a Today equivalent. Personally l can’t see Ten spending cash on mornings when their evenings need tweaking.

  9. Georgie is the one I want to replace Lisa as she has that calmness that Lisa had. Please Nine do not promote Sylvia & definitely don’t even think of putting Natalia on the desk in any form. Chris Bath could be an inspired choice or Jayne Azzopardi.
    Has anyone checkecked Sarah Harris to see if her contract with Ten is up soon? She could return to Nine.
