Local drama doing it tough on Wednesday

Ratings: Secret Daughter & Sisters are falling short of where networks need them to be.

While international dramas may be topping the ratings, local dramas are doing it much tougher.

The Secret Daughter, last year one of the top rating dramas of the year for Seven, has been squandered away in programming second time around.

Last night it pulled 530,000 and 444,000 in a double episode playout. Although that isn’t far behind Rosehaven‘s win on 548,000 it’s a far cry from 2016’s run, half of which were above 1 million.

But it’s even more dire for TEN with Sisters bumped to a 9:30 slot where it slumped to 150,000 viewers in only its 5th episode. For the record another 85,000 timeshifted last week’s episode, unlikely to be enough to score a second season. Secret Daughter lifted 131,000 in timeshifted.

Hard Quiz won in its early evening slot with 664,000 viewers then Instant Hotel, 7:30, Family Food Fight and a Jamie Oliver repeat.

Rosehaven‘s 548,000 was down on Gruen but landed ahead of The Secret Daughter, a Nine movie, The Letdown, SVU and The Mosque.

The usual suspects won their slots: Seven News, ACA and The Chase.

Seven network won Wednesday with 30.3% then Nine 28.1%, ABC 19.1%, TEN 14.1% and SBS 7.8%.

Seven News was #1 for Seven with 934,000 / 899,000 then Home and Away (654,000), Instant Hotel (611,000), The Chase (539,000 / 360,000) and The Secret Daughter (530,000 / 444,000).

Nine News (872,000 / 810,000) was best for Nine followed by A Current Affair (679,000), Family Food Fight (489,000), Hot Seat (439,000 / 263,000) and movie: Jurassic World (395,000 in 4 cities).

ABC News (677,000), Hard Quiz (664,000), 7:30 (556,000), Rosehaven (548,000), The Letdown (384,000) and Adam Hills: The Last Leg (259,000) comprised ABC’s night.

The Project (465,000 / 340,000) led for TEN then TEN Eyewitness News (443,000), Family Feud (333,000), Jamie’s Super Food (303,000), Law & Order: SVU (222,000) and Sisters (150,000). Madam Secretary in a late slot drew a mere 77,000.

On SBS it was Europe’s Last Warrior Kings (206,000), The Mosque (191,000), SBS World News (121,00) and Riviera just 92,000.

Shaun the Sheep showed off with 216,000 on multichannels.

Food Fight bombing, Sisters needs the axe (sadly, I’ve been watching via TenPlay), Secret Daughter doing alright and gaining viewers in catch-up, but should be doing better, affected by timeslot changes due to Good Doctor and soccer last week (also good episodes last week and last night). Gruen still very popular. Jurassic Park (even though 4 cities) was poor in total people for a premiere, did a lot better in demos, winning the youngest.

  6. Aussie drama at 8.30pm plus is a joke but at 9.30pm, can they expect to get huge ratings. Put Sisters in place of Jamie’s cooking show n give it half a chance.

  7. I didn’t tune into season 2 of The Secret Daughter like many viewers. My reason being I didn’t overly like season 1 but persued. I just didn’t feel motivated to return and favoured Sisters. Despite Sisters rating lower I do prefer it and would tune in if another season was produced….but as stated by many it is unlikely to return. Those numbers are atrocious.
