Netflix suspends production on House of Cards

Netflix halts production "to give us time to review the current situation."

Production on House of Cards has suspended following recent sexual assault allegations levelled by actor Anthony Rapp against star Kevin Spacey.

“MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew,” said the companies in a statement.

Reports suggest the companies made the decision to shut down given the intense scrutiny on the show stirred up after yesterday’s news.

Spacey is not currently on set for House of Cards. He issued an apology for his “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior,” but was widely criticised amid suggestions that he came out as a gay man to deflect from the allegations.

Both companies indicated they were “deeply troubled” by reports and had sent executives to Baltimore to meet with cast and crew, confirming the upcoming sixth season would be the last for the hit series.

But there are also reports of possible spinoffs for the show, one potentially around political aide Doug Stamper, played by Michael Kelly. Two other spinoff ideas are also being explored, but Netflix declined to comment.

  1. I feel for the hundreds of people who work on the show who are playing the price for something Spacey did decades ago.Hopefully they can resume production at some point and give the show a proper send off. It’s a very tricky situation for Netflix though.Damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

  2. A tricky position for Netflix. How do they continue working with Spacey and how will the fans respond? It would be a shame for the show if it were denied a decent ending. Mind you, I thought it should have ended with season 2 and everything that’s followed has not been as good.

  3. While I sympathise with Anthony Rapp if this was indeed the case

These are just allegations at the moment – Allegedly……..

It seems that now a days, in this oh so politically correct climate, when you sling mud, it sticks like glue

    Guilty! Until proven innocent.
