Ratings quirks on a quiet Wednesday

Ratings: Home & Away is tops in entertainment and a VICELAND movie pushes SBS to nearly 10%.

On a relatively quiet Wednesday there were a few unusual results: Home and Away was the top entertainment show of the night, a 1994 movie on VICELAND lifted SBS share to nearly double figures and TEN’s biggest audience was its 5pm news.

ABC again won its early evening timeslot with Hard Quiz and 7:30 ahead of Instant Hotel, The Voice Kids, Cram and Europe’s Last Warrior Kings.

At 8:30pm Rosehaven beat The Secret Daughter & Struggle Street with Law & Order: SVU some distance behind. The Letdown beat a Victoria’s Secret special at 9pm.

Seven News, ACA and The Chase again won their slots.

Unusually a Stargate movie rerun on SBS VICELAND at 98,000 pushed the channel to a 2.4% share, helping SBS overall to nearly 10%.

Seven network won Wednesday with 31.0% then Nine 26.3%, ABC 18.0%, TEN 14.9% and SBS 9.8%.

Seven News was #1 for Seven with 989,000 / 957,000 then Home and Away (663,000), Instant Hotel (611,000), The Chase (567,000 / 370,000) and The Secret Daughter (497,000 / 433,000).

Nine News (890,000 / 889,000) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (788,000), The Voice Kids (454,000), Hot Seat (448,000 / 285,000) and Victoria’s Secrets (283,000).

TEN Eyewitness News (456,000) led for TEN followed by The Project (448,000 / 310,000), Family Feud (298,000) and Cram (290,000). Law and Order: SVU was 207,000 and Sisters was just 172,000.

On SBS it was Struggle Street (285,000), Europe’s Last Warrior Kings (207,000), SBS World News (127,000) and Riviera (87,000).

Shaun the Sheep showed up multichannels at 229,000.

  1. I love The Project… but it drives me mental that every night they have the special guest on last and they are only on screen for 5 mins. The hosts always have to rush with the music playing them out to wrap up the show fast. Give them more time. I would have been happy to hear more from culture club… instead of random stories about nothing. This isn’t a one off. Happens all the time.

  2. Funnily enough, we watched Stargate just coz it was on and we haven’t seen it in years! That movie is from a day I found David Spader to be creepy and odd, but now I love the guy.

  3. You have to wonder how much longer the Project can survive, numbers just seems to dwindle and does no favours for whatever is following.

And on a side-note, just want to say I enjoyed the DC cross-over the last two nights. Was done so much better than previous efforts.

  4. Sisters is my favourite local drama this year but did we really need a 5 minute promo for I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here last night? I think not. The Let Down is getting better and better.

  5. Ratings pretty poor across the board, but those TEN figures are just woeful. Shaun the Sheep nearly outrated TEN’s entire primetime from 6pm!

Is the figure for Riviera on SBS the average for both eps last night?

      1. The Project gave Cram a 448k lead in, Cram turned it into 290k. Yes, their 6.00-7.30 numbers are regularly fourth but, as much as I want to love Aussie made game shows, Cram is garbage in the current format. It can be made into a success but changes need to be made to it.

          1. I’ve frequently noted these kinds of shows are outstaying their welcome beyond 30 mins. ABC has no ands and gets these rights. Commercials tend to think “we’ve spent the money, crank it out for an hour not 30.”

      2. At 7:30pm Nine lost 42% of their viewers, Seven lost 8% and TEN lost 33% of their viewers. All continued to shed viewers thereon. There was no build up anywhere at 7:30pm. Just the opposite. Where did they go? Netflix?

        1. Perhaps they were taking out their FTA frustration by listening to the 18min version of “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” and shouting part of the lyrics at the TV like “Half a ton of garbage”, “Kill, Kill, Kill”, “wait for it to come”, “wait till it comes around again”, “just waiting for it to come around”. An irregular tradition at our place.
It’s a bad sign for FTA when I watch a time-shifted show before the time-shifting has finished.
