Senior reporter leaving 7:30

11 people have nominated for voluntary redundancy at ABC.

A senior reporter at 7:30 is amongst ABC staff to have nominated for voluntary redundancy.

Fairfax reports 11 people put their hand up, including a current affairs reporter with ABC Radio AM, senior news operations director and an award-winning senior 7.30 journalist.

This round of redundancies is reportedly not related to budget cuts and will allow more digital staff to be hired.

An ABC spokeswoman said staff were given the opportunity to put up their hand in October.

“All expressions of preference were considered, and these 11 roles were identified as ones that could be removed from the structure,” she said. “Redeployment is not relevant as these employees expressed an interest in leaving.”

Yesterday longtime Good Game presenter Steven “Bajo” O’Donnell announced he had resigned, to become a fulltime presenter with Twitch.tv platform.

Last month 7:30 political chief Chris Uhlmann joined Nine.

  1. I wonder if this will be like many previous occasions where staff have accepted healthy packages, and within a matter of months they are back at Aunty working in a ‘Freelance or Consultancy’ role – having given their Super account a nice little boost?
