Turkey to adapt Neighbours

Everybody needs good Komşular....

Turkish broadcaster Fox Turkey will screen a local drama series using original Neighbours scripts.

To be known as Komşular, the series will will be set in a fictional suburb of Istanbul called Karanfil Yokuşu. Produced by No:9 Productions, it will be based on original Neighbours storylines from 2012 onwards, when the Turner and Willis families joined Ramsay Street.

Drama operations executive Erdi Isiky said: “Komşular, the Turkish version of Neighbours by No:9 Productions and directed by Canan Evcimen and Göksel Aydın, will launch on Fox Turkey on November 6.

“Much like the original series that is loved by audiences far and wide, the first global adaptation includes a brilliant cast and will be sure to capture Fox audiences across Turkey.”

Komşular’s director Canan Evcimen added: “By coming to Turkey, the legendary drama series Neighbours continues to grow its global audience, which has been established in more than 60 countries.

Komşular will be an essential guest in the houses of Turkish audiences, thanks to its strong storyline combined [with] a warm local feel.”

  1. I was surprised that the original Neighbours never aired in Turkey (as far as I’m aware), and I was also surprised by the range of Aussie content that I happened to spot on their screens over the years, including the likes of Bondi Rescue/Vet, and Jonathan M Shiff’s productions. Turkey’s been producing quite a lot of remakes of international shows, including The O.C., The Golden Girls, Desperate Housewives, Pretty Little Liars etc.

I wonder if Turkish Neighbours will be a weekly show (meaning that each episode will be 2 hours long *before ads*, as is the standard over there, hence why I don’t watch any Turkish dramas as they contain an intolerable amount of filler), or a soap opera, known over there as “daily dramas” (all Turkish soaps that I’m aware of are an hour long).
