ABC dramas on US binge list

Cleverman & The Code named in Hollywood Reporter Binge Watch for the Holidays.

ABC dramas Cleverman and The Code have both been named in Hollywood Reporter’s 12 International TV Series to Binge Watch this Holiday Season.

Here’s what they had to say:

Cleverman (Sundance TV):
Worth checking out for the concept alone: The world’s Aboriginal sci-fi superhero series is set in a near-future where an ancient species of native superhumans, called the Hairypeople, battle to survive in a world that wants to wipe them from the earth. But stay for the subtext about institutionalized racism, and the kick-ass action sequences from directors Wayne Blair and Leah Purcell.

The Code (Acorn TV):
When an Australian journalist and his hacker brother investigate the story of two missing aboriginal teens, they uncover a dark and horrifying conspiracy. Slick, smart and scary, The Code features star turns by Lucy Lawless as the teacher of the two students and David Wenham as the Deputy Prime Minister.

Other titles included Alias Grace, Wasteland and Broken.

  1. Considering how many Aussies (and Kiwi’s) are playing American’s in U.S. shows and movies one would think that more Australian shows could end up on U.S. and overseas streaming and cable channels, this is the 2018 new year challenge for networks in Australia including Foxtel and Stan, make more shows, be more adventurous with your creative content and marketing there’s plenty of co-production money out there.
