Airdate: Shane Delia’s Recipe for Life

Spice Journey host has a new series to improve the health of the community, one meal at a time.

New SBS series Shane Delia’s Recipe for Life will debut in early January, as the Spice Journey host ventures outside the kitchen to improve the health of the community, one meal at a time.

Produced for SBS by Essential Media and Entertainment, the eight-part series centres around his life motto.

“Strength through Hospitality is an ethos that has guided my own life since I found my purpose in the kitchen 22 years ago. It’s a philosophy I’m hugely passionate about and I’m really excited to share it to inspire members of the diverse community I grew up in, and in turn with the rest of Australia, through this vibrant new series, Recipe for Life.” he said.

There’s nothing more important to Shane than family – he still shares Monday night dinners with his extended family each week – and with his children Jayda and Jude in their early years of schooling Shane is embarking on a brand new venture to educate kids on the importance of eating well. Feed the Mind will see Shane faced with the formidable challenge of bringing healthy, tasty, affordable food into the tuckshop, so he’s enlisted the kitchen garden guru herself, Stephanie Alexander, to lend a helping hand!

All the while Shane is running hatted 10-year-old institution Maha and his new Collingwood kebab store Biggie Smalls, and opening the first Biggie Smalls on wheels! He’s identified the growing trend in food trucks all over the world, and as an entrepreneur he can’t let this exciting movement pass him by. But creating a mobile kitchen, service area, and shopfront isn’t as straightforward as he’d hoped and there are looming deadlines to meet.

Driven by more than just a desire to build a business that brings contemporary Middle Eastern tastes and culture to mainstream Australia and as well as overseeing his growing business empire, the celebrity chef is actively involved in a number of community programs in the western suburbs of Melbourne, including the Sons of the West program run by Shane’s beloved Western Bulldogs and the fantastic City in the Community initiative run by Melbourne City FC for new migrants to the area.

With so many balls in the air, the hardest part will be not to drop any… luckily Shane’s irascible sense of humour, impeccable hospitality skills, and raw talent as a chef should see him through.

8pm Thursdays on SBS starting January 11.
