House of Cards to resume production -without Kevin Spacey

Robin Wright will lead the sixth and final season as production resumes in January.

Netflix has confirmed House of Cards will resume production without disgraced star Kevin Spacey.

Robin Wright will lead the sixth and final season, which was halted falling the recent headlines surrounding Spacey. 8 episodes will screen, down from 13 last season.

Writing out Frank Underwood will not be a problem given that in the Michael Dobbs book that inspired the UK original, Frank’s character dies, and feeds into the conclusion of season 5.

“We are excited to bring closure to fans,” Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos announced.

The news also gives certainty to the hundreds of production jobs associated with the show, all of which were hanging in the balance as Netflix and producers Media Rights Capital shut down production.

Meanwhile director Ridley Scott has already replaced Spacey in the film All the Money in the World with Christopher Plummer, due for release on December 22nd.

House of Cards will resume production in early 2018.

  1. I feel this a further kick in the pants for Robin. She fought for years for equal pay and now she has been given the spotlight as the main character, albeit from pathetic behavior from Kevin, she only gets that spotlight for eight episodes, not 13.
She is an amazingly strong woman and actress and i think this is very disappointing that she will not be given the full opportunity to take the show on as lead.
I do appreciate that there may have been deals for only six seasons however they could have made changes to carry the show on. It became a little stale at times in s5 so she could have made the most of Frank’s demise and shook things up.

  2. Kevin Spacey presence cant be completely eliminated from view as his character has been integral with most of the shows plot, besides last season looked as if a final countdown for Frank was well under way even before the real life scandal. It would be good if the Netflix producers could explain why there are only 8 episodes, 10 is the usual number for a final season.

  3. Interesting how they will do this. Robin’s character had arguably become the most interesting part of the show anyway. A good outcome for the fans and all the people associated with the show.
