US networks are again exploring new versions of familiar shows with both The IT Crowd and The Office in the pipeline.
The IT Crowd creator Graham Linehan is set to write and executive produce a reimagining of the hit UK comedy, which starred Chris O’Dowd, Richard Ayoade & Katherine Parkinson in the IT department of a massive corporation.
The new version for NBC is the third time the network has attempted an adaptation (including one with Joel McHale), but the first with Linehan writing.
Meanwhile NBC is also exploring a revival for The Office, but without Steve Carell involved.
A search is reportedly underway to find a new star to take over as the show’s Michael Scott-like regional manager of paper supply company, Dunder Mifflin.
NBC has recently found success with a revival of Will & Grace, already given a further season.

IT Crowd not only relied on its British writing, but also the time it was made. Less people use desktops now and a lot of stuff which the average audience member knew has increased since.
Part of why I think the show worked was that a lot of the mainstream audience was ignorant to many of the subjects brought up in the show on a technical side, that’ll decrease with time.
