New exec producer for A Current Affair

60 Minutes Chief of Staff Steven Burling to head up Nine's nightly current affairs.

Steven Burling has been appointed as new executive producer of A Current Affair, following Grant Williams moving to a new role.

Burling has two decades with Nine including six years as 60 Minutes Chief of Staff and senior roles at ACA as Sydney Bureau Chief and Chief of Staff, as well as at the Today show.

“Steve is passionate about ACA and committed to great story-telling. He’ll bring new ideas and inspiration to the program and lead the fostering of a terrific team environment,” news boss Darren Wick said in a note to staff.

ACA is a unique program on the Australian television landscape. It’s a family of reporters, producers, editors and cameramen committed to helping people, whether that be getting justice for viewers who’ve been conned and wronged, keeping the bad guys in check or showing how to save a few precious dollars by always delivering the best deal.

“We’ve ended 2017 with Tracy Grimshaw reinforcing her credentials as the best live interviewer going around. I’m really excited about the changes to the program and believe 2018 will be our best year ever.”

Despite winning its timeslot, 2017 is also a year ACA would probably rather forget after its offices were raided in the investigation and subsequent prosecution of reporter Ben McCormack.

In October Grant Williams moved to a new role as Manager of News Content Development.

Burling will take up his new role from Monday, 8 January.

  1. They need to pull ACA to the ground and rebuild it… the show is a joke now and has been for some time and I swear it never used to be so racist when it came to Muslims.

  2. “60 Minutes Chief of Staff Steven Burling to head up Nine’s nightly current affairs.”
The definition of “current affairs” has certainly changed since the Mike Willesee days.
