New managing director at GTV9

Matt Scriven becomes new GTV9 managing director as Ian Paterson moves to new role.

GTV9 managing director Ian Paterson will take on a new role within the Nine Network, appointed to the new position of Director – Commercial Partnerships and Affiliates.

All state-based Managing Directors will report to Paterson (pictured right) and the role includes executive responsibility for the affiliate partnership with Southern Cross Austereo. He will also be responsible for increasing the company’s commercial revenues of 9Commercial and establishing new commercial business partnerships.

Nine CFO Greg Barnes said: “As Nine continues its evolution from a free-to-air television business, to a multi-platform video business, it will create significant opportunities to drive new revenue streams. Ian’s appointment reflects Nine’s commitment to accelerating the growth of these revenues.

“For the last six years Ian has successfully guided the performance of our Melbourne business and been a key member of the senior management team. His leadership, professional drive and understanding of the industry means Ian is the ideal person to oversee out state network and to play a more dedicated role in the delivery of our commercial partnerships and revenue streams.”

Paterson said: “Serving the company and leading Nine Melbourne has been an honour. The dedication and passion of our staff makes Nine the success it continues to be. I take on the challenges of this new role at a time when the company has a clearly developed strategic pathway. Personally,
this change represents an exciting opportunity and I’m looking forward to playing my part in Nine’s future success.”

I couldn’t be more delighted knowing that GTV9 is in safe and capable hands and I’ll look forward to seeing him drive our continued success across all its operations,” said Paterson.

Both appointments are effective immediately.

  1. Kudos to Ian. It’s tough being a network executive, in charge of one of the biggest and most important markets, where the rival network has dominated for so long, due to heritage (lead by the AFL).

    Nine Melbourne have been able to grow their audience under him, with resurgence in 6pm news from 2012 and programs like The Block, Postcards, among others.

    New era now.
