Sophie Monk confirmed for Love Island

It's a perfect fit for 9GO!'s upcoming dating show (with thanks to The Bachelorette).

Sophie Monk has been confirmed to host Love Island, coming to 9GO! in 2018.

Rumours had been swirling the former Bachelorette star would land the gig, following her uber-popularity on TEN’s dating show.

The series, based on a racy UK format, follows singles chasing love in a Spanish villa setting, produced by ITV Studios Australia.

“How awesome will it be to work in Spain in summer! Love Island is like nothing Australia has ever had, it’s right up my alley! I’m so excited, it’s ridiculous!” said Monk.

Michael Healy, Nine Director of Television said: “Sophie is the perfect fit for Love Island Australia – she’s fun and real. What you see is what you get. It’s great to have Sophie back to her home at Nine, from Love Island Australia to her travel special and the great energy she will bring to 9Honey and 9Now we know the audience love her.”

Monk has previously worked for Nine before on both Australia’s Got Talent and Celebrity Apprentice.

As part of the deal Monk will also present a travel special and appear across all of Nine’s digital platforms as a 9Honey and 9Now ambassador.

Helen McCabe, Nine Digital Content Director, said: “Sophie will take a leading role on 9Honey as a face and contributor to our women’s lifestyle network. We look forward to using her for commentary, videos, social campaigns, podcasts and whatever else we develop as we set about relaunching the site in 2018.”

Not only must the Love Island couples stay together, they must also survive the temptations as sexy new singles enter the island. They must also win the hearts of the public, convincing them – and themselves – that their newfound love is real. The winning couple are handed a pot of money to start their new lives together, but there’s a catch: one is given the chance to share the money or walk away with it all for them self. Were they after love or money all along?

    1. Unless they’re all bi or all gay (which it won’t be either) of course they’ll all be straight. Naive to think otherwise, needs to be for all the couple swapping that goes on.

  1. I will be interested to see what nine do with this. Australian television is far more conservative than British TV. If it’s as racy as the UK version, it’s likely to be very controversial indeed.

    1. Its a good start for her in hosting roles. In this show the focus will be on the lovers rather than Sophie, so less pressure.

Nine has her on contract and no doubt will find the right shows for her abilities.
