Which Programmers tipped it right?
In January TV Tonight asked programmers to pick their competition. How did they stack up?

Part of the skill of being a network programmer is knowing the turf, taking a gamble and praying the odds fall in your favour.
Earlier this year TV Tonight asked execs at each network to tip the show they were most looking forward to on rival networks.
So who was best at tipping the hot properties?
Here’s what they chose…
Angus Ross, Head of Programming, Seven.
Which new show are you personally looking forward to seeing?
Travel Guides and The Real Housewives of Sydney
Which new show has you concerned, and may steal eyeballs?
This Time Next Year
Beverley McGarvey, Chief Content Officer, TEN.
Which new show are you personally looking forward to seeing?
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Which new show has you concerned, and may steal eyeballs?
Australian Ninja Warrior
Hamish Turner, Programme Director, Nine.
Which new show are you personally looking forward to seeing?
Wake in Fright
Which new show has you concerned, and may steal eyeballs?
Russell Coight’s All Aussie Adventures and Blue Murder
Ben Nguyen, Programming Director, SBS.
Which new show are you personally looking forward to seeing?
Australian Ninja Warrior
Which new show has you concerned, and may steal eyeballs?
Seven Types of Ambiguity
Rebecca Heap, Head of Programming & Digital, ABC.
Which new show are you personally looking forward to seeing?
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Which new show has you concerned, and may steal eyeballs?
Common Sense and Blue Murder
Brian Walsh, Executive Director of Television, Foxtel.
Which new show are you personally looking forward to seeing?
Wake In Fright
Which new show has you concerned, and may steal eyeballs?
Murder Uncovered
So with Picnic at Hanging Rock and Russell Coight failing to air at all, best answers fall to those who correctly tipped Australian Ninja Warrior being Beverley McGarvey & Ben Nguyen (with This Time Next Year and Murder Uncovered as runners-up).
Hopes around Real Housewives of Sydney and Common Sense were very wide of the mark. At least nobody picked Yummy Mummies!

I’ve heard Yummy Mummies will be back on Seven next year despite its appalling ratings. Apparently they have a sponsor who is paying all the production costs, and that sponsor has also bought all the timeslots for it to air on Seven, effectively making it a huge advertorial.
Renewal already reported here. In fact also tipped here ahead of all others. Advertorial info is extra though.
Well, Wake in Fright was a miss, but I really enjoyed.
So did I
I think this survey pretty much demonstrates that nobody really knows anything. Programming is like standing in a dark room throwing darts at a bullseye … and anyone who claims otherwise is full of BS.
I kind of agree with you, buts that’s how it is for FTA programming, invest a bit of money and see how the target audience reacts, then invest a bit more if the numbers are right, Australian viewer habits are not that complex it would seem, they just want simple time fillers to relax until bedtime, more advanced viewers organise their own choice of entertainment elsewhere.
What you are referring to is broadly appealing light entertainment which is not unique to Australia. Main difference here is reality dominance in the 7:30 slot.
