Comedy still key to winning viewers

Viewers love their comedy performers, and they want more comedies on air, according to current voting in the TV Tonight Awards.

There are just 4 more days left to vote for the Best and Worst of TV in 2017 -so far the names that are topping the Favourite Female & Male Performers are dominated by comedy.

At the other end of the spectrum, Morning TV stars are prominent in the Worst categories.

And it will be hard to unseat ABC for the Best Comedy show award -no surprise, given they make so much of the stuff.

Readers have commented on the lack of Comedy on other networks and want to see much more of it on air in 2018:

ABC Comedy going from strength to strength. Commercial networks getting worse and worse.

I am really loving the ABC’s commitment to supporting new Aussie comedy shows.

Wish there was more local dramas and scripted comedy made and less reality. 

We need more drama and comedy and docos. Get rid of reality shows altogether.

We need more drama and a comedy skit show.

ABC Comedy is a brave move, I would prefer a mix of comedy and drama still, but let’s see how it goes.

Too much concentration on reality titles and not enough on developing good drama or comedy.
