Erin Molan to host NRL Footy Show

'Fatty' Vautin is out, Erin Molan is in as part of "new-look" Footy Show.

Nine has confirmed early details of it “new-look NRL Footy Show.”

As previously reported Paul “Fatty” Vautin is out after 24 years with Erin Molan to take centrestage as host.

Returning are Beau Ryan and Darryl “The Big Marn” Brohmann. They will be joined by members of the Wide World of Sports commentary team as well as former and current players

The “new format” will remain on Thursdays, following NRL matches, but what is less clear is whether it will still attract the studio audience and production crew, or resemble a panel discussion.

Paul “Fatty” Vautin will remain with Nine but moves into the Wide World of Sports commentary box.

At their October Upfronts, Nine indicated no changes to the show, but contradicted plans just a week later:

The NRL Footy Show also returns for its 25th season in 2018, with all the latest breaking stories and loads of fun from the world of rugby league. Each week Paul “Fatty” Vautin, Erin Molan, Beau Ryan and Darryl “Big Marn” Brohman will be joined by some of the biggest names in the game, including Johnathan Thurston and Billy Slater, as they provide expert analysis on all the matches.

Erin Molan said: “I’m thrilled to be hosting a new-look Footy Show. It is a huge honour and one I am incredibly excited about. I am a journalist first and foremost and cannot wait to focus a bit more on football, but of course still have loads of fun.

“The panel will feature the best commentators, former and current players the game has to offer – and it will be a privilege to pick their brains – plus the best journalists with breaking news every week.”

Nine’s Director of Sport, Tom Malone, said: “We are delighted we’ve been able to retain Fatty’s services in the commentary box, and that Beau and Big Marn have agreed to roles for 2018 and beyond.

“The new Footy Show will better reflect the requirements of our NRL programming in 2018, with 23 nights of Thursday Night Football. There will be a greater focus on football with a mix of entertainment that is better suited to the later timeslot.”

New NRL Footy Show Executive Producer, Andy O’Brien, said of the changes “It’s extremely exciting to be part of the new era of such an endeared television program. We are working hard to create a show which honours the Footy Show’s rich heritage whilst reflecting the game and its fans in 2018 and beyond.”

Nine is yet to reveal plans for its new Monday night NRL panel show, expected to resemble Footy Classified.

  1. No Fatty, no Footy Show for me. I’m glad the Big Marn is back though. They need to get rid of Beau Ryan and get Matty Johns back too. Maybe after the crap ratings they will get this year, they’ll ask Fatty back too. If not, this show is Goooone!

  2. The shows needs to return to its 90s days where they debated key issues in league properly. The original lineup of Fatty, Sterlo, Ray Hadley and Steve Roach is sorely missing.

  3. Its great to hear the Footy Show is having a revamp. Its a pitty Beau Ryan and Darryl Brohmann are still involved, it leaves the door open for the Footy Show to still be a Yobbo Show. Bring back Peter Sterling and Paul Harragon for some informed input.
