Happy New Year!

It's a year of sporting events, anniversaries & the return of old faves.

Welcome to 2018 and Happy New Year!

Hope the year ahead is prosperous and chockful of TV goodies for you -back after a break this year, Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, Andrew Denton Interview-style plus Jack Irish & Rake.

The year kicks off with Romper Stomper dropping 6 episodes today on Stan before SBS slows things down with The Ghan this Sunday.

Home and Away is about to turn 30 while the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras marks its 40th anniversary in March -new ABC drama Riot will show us how it all began.

Summer TV continues until early February with Cricket and Tennis. If Sport is your thang you have a big year ahead with the Winter Olympics around the corner and the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April. In July the Gold Coast will also be home to its very first Logie Awards.

Big reality franchises will be underway from late Jan -you already know the big three coming. We will also see The Good Doctor return later this month, and there are teases for Underbelly Files: Chopper, Travel Guides, Planet Blue II due soonish. And just what will Lisa Wilkinson add to TEN?

ABC will be wasting no time with Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell and The Checkout back this month, and new quiz Think Tank in early Feb.

Some of the other things I’m looking forward to this year, Safe Harbour, Go Back Live, TEN’s pilot week & Pine Gap.

On Netflix new sci-fi Altered Carbon drops in February, and later this year is the rebooted Lost in Space, plus David Letterman‘s new interview series.

And will we see Game of Thrones conclude?

TV Tonight marks another anniversary on Friday, more on that soon, and that’s also the closing date for the site’s annual awards.

Here’s to much more to come….

David.

  1. The Checkout and Mad As Hell return this month? Fantastic scoop there. (if that was already known by a TV promo, forgive me but would not have seen it)

Think Tank will be interesting to see in February.

And finally everyone including me needs to be super careful about social media from January 5. That’s when The Good Doctor returns in the US.(7plus have missed a golden opportunity to be ahead of Australian TV)

P.S. Hopefully 7plus will become more reliable for me and also the rest of Australia.
