  1. There’s some interesting future forums with this data, the most interesting to me is the debate about the negative effect pirating was having on TV studios and production companies; there obviously must be plenty of money to be made in making big budget TV drama and movies especially for pay TV subscribers plus the profits derived from DVD sales, whatever the studio bosses say, I suspect that pirating had much to do with recent fast forwarding of up to date streamed content to our screens much to the chagrin of Foxtel and FTA TV . Then there’s the possible financial issues for the future. especially with Disney, Netflix, Google and Amazon investing mega billions to control content and attract new subscribers. It’s a brave new world.

  2. Basic cable started sinking money into dramas to try and keep people subscribing as over-top-services started appearing. That peaked in 2015 and two small networks abandoned scripted content last year. Networks are making more scripted shows because they are making more short season shows and cancelling more shows, requiring replacements. The growth in unscripted network content has been larger.
