Netflix has announced April 13 as launch date for the rebooted Lost in Space.

Very creatively the crew of the International Space Station have already been given the first episode to screen.

Earthlings will have to wait a little longer…

Lost in Space is a Netflix Original dramatic and modern reimagining of the classic 1960’s science fiction series. Set 30 years in the future, colonisation in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination. Stranded along with the Robinsons are two outsiders who find themselves thrown together by circumstance and a mutual knack for deception. The unsettlingly charismatic Dr. Smith (Parker Posey) is a master manipulator with an inscrutable end game. And the roguish, but inadvertently charming Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) is a highly-skilled, blue collar contractor, who had no intention of joining the colony, let alone crash landing on a lost planet.

  1. Don West is Spanish? It”s funny in these remakes how they change their ethnicity but not their names to match. Also does every American show that features a family have to have an adopted child of a different race? Dr Smith as a female, it will be nothing like the original. That seething hatred between West and Smith will instead be sexual tension.

  2. The original series made no real sense-you send a related nuclear family as colonists to a new planet-I hear banjos in the background! It started as a ‘serious’ show but then became much more frivolous as it went on-who could forget the Vegetable people ep?
The film of some years ago was a relative flop but the current disease of reviving every bloody thing shows no sign of stopping.

  3. In the original l always wanted to know how they land on the surface of the planet and the lower deck was embedded in the rock? The other thing that l found weird is where did the chariot live in the Jupiter 2 and how did they get it out??

    1. The Chariot was supposed to be did assembled and stored that way in the hull of the ship, then assembled as needed-this would have been a reasonable thing except that the ship simply wasn’t large enough to match the apparent interior sets-not an uncommon thing in sci fi productions!

  4. Netflix has a pretty good track record. I look forward to this. Toby Stephens was absolutely amazing in Black Sails, I hope this show allows him to also be that way.

  5. We will have to see if Dr Smith and the Robot gain the limelight like they did in the original Irwin Allen TV series. The atmospheric theme music was also a recognisable part of Lost in Space as it is for Star Trek, how much of the original shows storyline will be included in this 21st Century version will be fascinating to watch, especially for all those oldies who were kids when they first watched the 60’s show.

    1. Yes loved that theme song, it was very distinctive. Will be interesting to see if they get knocked off course by a meteor storm and come across an alien ship and comet in the first couple of episodes.

      1. Yes I did notice that Parker Posey is Dr Smith, I actually think that could be a good change. My curiosity was more around story lines and props/ equipment they use, like the chariot. I loved the chariot on the original series and always wanted one… still do 🙂
