Airdate: Picnic at Hanging Rock

Reimagined 6 part drama is coming to Showcase in May.

Reimagined drama series Picnic at Hanging Rock has been confirmed for a premiere on May 6th on the Showcase channel.

Foxtel yesterday confirmed the date at a Valentine’s Day media launch at Hanging Rock, north-west of Melbourne, joined by cast members.

The 6 part series starring Natalie Dormer, Lily Sullivan, Samara Weaving, Madeleine Madden and Ruby Rees, is based on Joan Lindsay’s celebrated novel. It will open the prestigious ‘Berlinale Series’ of the Berlin International Film Festival next week.

The reimagining is the latest in a line of Aussie remakes including Wake in Fright, Romper Stomper, The Devil’s Playground and Mystery Road.

The FremantleMedia Australia production was shot in Victoria, and has already deals in place with Amazon Prime Video in the US, BBC for the UK, Canal+ in France and SKY New Zealand’s premium entertainment channel SoHo.

Picnic at Hanging Rock is a FremantleMedia Australia production for Foxtel. Executive producers are FremantleMedia Australia’s Jo Porter and Anthony Ellis and Foxtel’s Penny Win, script producer and establishing writer is Beatrix Christian, Writer Alice Addison, producer Brett Popplewell, directors are Larysa Kondracki, Michael Rymer and Amanda Brotchie. FremantleMedia International is distributing the series worldwide.
