Annie Jones returns to Neighbours

“Plain Jane Superbrain” is headed back to Ramsay Street some 29 years after she departed.

Actress Annie Jones has been filming a Neighbours return some 29 years after she departed.

Jones played “Plain Jane Superbrain” Harris from 1986 to 1989 who would become friends with Charlene Mitchell (Kylie Minogue), Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan) and boyfriend Mike Young (Guy Pearce). She went on to win a Silver Logie for Most Popular Actress and made brief appearances for the 20th and 30th anniversary specials.

“I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to return to Neighbours. As an actor, the best thing you can be is a working actor. I’ve done a lot of guest roles but usually very short-lived, so this has been lovely to come back for an extended period and really get my teeth into a part,” she said.

Producer Jason Herbison said: “Annie is a beloved star from the golden era of Neighbours and we are honoured to have her back on the show. She had a very interesting take on what her character Jane might be up to nowadays and we incorporated it into the storyline. There’s warmth and nostalgia yet also a very fascinating character journey.”

Original cast member Stefan Dennis, added, “This is going to sound terribly gushy, but Annie is just the same as she was on the show 30 years ago, kind, funny and just a beautiful person to be around. I’ve loved having her back on set.”

‘Jane Harris’ returns to screen in early April on a mission to rectify the past and raises some eyebrows in the process.

  1. Wow, best Neighbours news ever! I’ve long wanted Annie to return. I am wondering if they’ll be taking my script suggestion and have Jane be linked to Clive. Although from the same era, they were never together in Neighbours, but they did appear as a couple in The Flying Doctors. I’m excited to see if it plays out the way I suggested, won’t spoil it here though, just incase. To think I was considering stopping watching after Izzy Hoylands return just seemed to tread old ground. They also had a great four hander last night. A nice surprise and not reported to death like their 3 hander a couple of years back.

Dunno why, but I laughed at this quote. Like, uhh yes, I’m sure an actor wants to be working and getting paid? Not sure why actors wouldn’t be wanting to get roles?

  3. Oh cool, I have been wanting her to return for so many years. Although I knew she was an early days cast member, I never recalled any of her performances until TEN showed reruns of Neighbours in the early 2000’s.
I’d also like to see a rerun of her sitcom ‘Newlyweds’ which used to air on Seven in the early 90’s.

  4. Wow – Annie was one of my favourites when I watched the show as a kid in the UK. This was a time when the average daily British audience of Neighbours was the same as the (then) population of Australia.
