Those with a long memory who recall a short-lived speed-dating show on TEN, Taken Out, may be interested to hear the format is returning to Australian TV as Take Me Out for Seven.

James Kerley hosted the 2008 show, developed at FremantleMedia Australia which debuted in a 7pm timeslot before The Project was born. It ran for just 2 weeks in the slot before being bumped to 6pm where it only lasted a few weeks more.

But the format was tweaked by Fremantle and went on to spawn multiple international versions as Take Me Out, the most memorable being China’s zany If You Are the One, which is screened here by SBS.

Now Seven has picked up the rights from Fremantle and is on the hunt for its multiple singles looking for game show love.

Seven’s Director of Network Programming, Angus Ross, says: “Those first wonderful moments – when girl meets boy – are filled with laughter and awkwardness. We take that fantastic first chat, give it the big shiny floor treatment and settle back for the fun.”

Forget swiping left or right and fighting over roses, Take Me Out is an exciting new entertainment series set to deliver on laughs and love.

The bold, funny and irreverent format has been a hit across the globe from China, Denmark and Indonesia to Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Korea. In the UK, it has been the number one show for young adults (16-34) and it’s set to do the same Down Under.

First impressions really do count in this provocative, visually spectacular and electrifyingly funny dating show.

Every week, 30 ladies with attitude are introduced to several bachelors one by one. Each woman has a switch that controls her fate for a date: if she thinks it’s a match, she keeps her light on; if her attraction has been short-circuited, then it’s lights out and she waits for the next potential Mr. Right.

The show has been responsible for hooking up hundreds of romantic hopefuls – including engagements, weddings and babies – and delivered twice as many LOL moments.

  1. I worked with Scott Tweedie last year and feel this show has him written all over it as the host. Watch his ‘Edge of the Jungle’ packages on the I’m a Celeb facebook page – he creates many laugh out loud moments! Creasey could be good, but a bit over the top for my liking. Definitely needs to be a young / cheeky host!

  2. I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes a hit (even if the dating reality genre is saturated). Seven seem to have success taking crap performers and turning them into hits like they did X Factor.

If Fremantle/Seven produces this new version of this show like the Chinese ‘If You Are The One’ (multiple 1’s in a one hour timeslot) as opposed to the poorly done former Ten show ‘Taken Out’ (not even one ‘1’ completes their run in a half hour timeslot), they will have a ratings winner and most likely me watching (depending on what else is on at the same time)

    1. Some dating shows definitely incorporate, including on Seven. At a glance I can’t see this on the first page of the application form, so unless it appears on subsequent pages it sounds like not yet inclusive. I will remind Seven they signed a Diversity charter.

  5. I was one of those sad people that watched it! Ha! Can’t really remember it though. Now I’m older and wiser (and married) probably won’t tune it. It was funny as I recall….
