Netflix twisted fantasy A Series of Unfortunate Events will end with its third season, probably in 2019.

Season 2 starring Neil Patrick Harris is due on March 30, spanning books 5 – 9 of the 13 book series.

Season 3, which was renewed in 2017, is expected to adapt the remaining 4 books.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a three-season plan was always what Netflix had in mind.

Harris, who stars as Count Olaf, the evil guardian of the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, confirmed the news this week.

  1. It will be an ambitious task to cover books 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9 in one season. And perhaps even more so with the last 4 books in season 3. As the series goes the stories get more detailed and intricate, the books get thicker. I hope they don’t have to make sacrifices to cram so much in.

If I were running the show I would have put more into season 1. Not only because book 2,3 &4 are very self contained but that crap Nickelodeon movie already covered the first 3 so the series did didn’t really cover much new ground albeit did a much better job.

    1. Sorry I had my numbers wrong:
      Season 1 adapted 1-4
Season 2 is meant to be adapted 5-9
Leaving Season 3 to cover 9-13.
If they keep the format of 2 episodes per book I don’t see an issue. Means we get 10 episodes instead of 8 in season 2 perhaps?

  2. I’m glad they’re adapting the books and not making anything up to keep it going. I’m sure if there were more books they’d still be going but stopping at where the books stop shows a great care for the original work. Props to the team!

    1. I couldn’t agree more, though we live in a consumer age when TV and movie studios deal with classic tales and popular books the story should always be the winner not the vested interests of investors and powerful producers who prefer a long profitable production runs as does the music industry.

  3. It’s good when producers and the talent make the decision to end before the audience does

Is a program axed when it comes to its natural conclusion? Axed is such a negative word that leaves you with the feeling the audience have given up on a show.
