Axed: Once Upon a Time

US fantasy drama will wrap with its 7th season, yet to begin in Australia.

US fantasy drama Once Upon a Time will wrap with its current 7th season.

ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said, “When we first heard Adam and Eddy’s pitch for Once Upon a Time, we knew it was something incredibly special. For seven years, they have captivated us with their creativity and passion while reimagining some of our most beloved Disney fairytales, creating an undeniable global hit. Saying goodbye will be bittersweet, but Once Upon a Time will forever be part of the ABC legacy and we can’t wait for fans to join us in this epic final chapter.”

The series began with stars Ginnifer Goodwin and Jennifer Morrison, but “softly rebooted” this season with a “new chapter” in the show’s book around Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle and Colin O’Donoghue.

A spin-off series, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, ran for one season with Aussie Sophie Lowe.

Season 7 began in the US in October but is yet to debut in Australia on Seven.

  1. Last season was beautifully written and was the perfect ending for the series. It wrapped up all the stories perfectly while keeping in the spirit of the show. They should have ended it on a high.

    1. You’ve obviously never seen it-7 seasons is a good run for an hour show with a large, talented cast, lots of special effects, locations, costumes etc and it lasted for justified reasons. Was shown here on various 7 stations and is also much repeated.

  2. It’s ratings fell badly during S5 & 6. When most of the cast left, ABC decided reboot it, because it’ so hard to get a new show up these days. They ended up using it to fill a hole on Friday night where it didn’t rate much worse than Inhuman and Agents Of Shield, but they have Marvel’s backing as part of the Avengers universe.
