Craig McLachlan launches legal action following allegations

Stuart Littlemore, QC, to represent Craig McLachlan against Fairfax, ABC & actress Christie Whelan Browne.

Craig McLachlan has now launched defamation proceedings against Fairfax Media and the ABC, and actress Christie Whelan Browne, following allegations made surrounding a Rocky Horror Show stage production.

McLachlan, who is seeking unspecified aggravated and special damages, has engaged high profile lawyer and former Media Watch host Stuart Littlemore, QC, to represent him.

He has strenuously denied all the claims published jointly by Fairfax Media and ABC last month. Two other actors cited in the reports have not been named as defendants.

Legal action set down for March 16 in the Supreme Court of NSW will see McLachlan take on his former Doctor Blake broadcaster ABC and former Wrong Girl actress Christie Whelan Browne. Documents also return fire, with claims levelled at Whelan Brown during both the TEN drama and the stage production.

“The plaintiff has been greatly injured in his business, personal and professional reputation and has been and will be brought into public disrepute, odium, ridicule and contempt,” the document states.

This week Doctor Blake Mysteries producer December Media acknowledged a “sexual, lewd, bawdy, ‘Benny-Hill-esque’ and crude” workplace culture but cleared McLachlan of direct allegations.
