A new NRL streaming channel has been launched by the NRL & FOX Sports.

Watchnrl.com will enable Rugby League fans to watch Live games including finals, plus State of Origin matches, whilst travelling in Australia, New Zealand and select Pacific nations. Pricing begins at $19 per week with the first event from tomorrow, and includes the FOX League channel.

FOX Sports Director, Operations and Digital, Les Wigan said: “Now NRL fans travelling or living overseas can watch their team in action every week live with the launch of Watch NRL. This service is a game changer.

“It will help take Rugby League to thousands of fans in more markets, across more platforms, than ever before delivering the best on-field coverage plus FOX Sports’ award-winning NRL shows and the most loved commentary team in the business.”

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said, “We know people want to watch the best of Rugby League when they are overseas and this will deliver the game to them live wherever they are,” he said.

The Watch NRL streaming service will be the only destination for fans outside of Australia, New Zealand and certain Pacific Nations* to watch every NRL match live and on demand.

Included in the package is access to FOX League, the only dedicated 24/7 Rugby League channel, which includes favourite NRL shows NRL 360, The Late Show with Matty Johns and the award-winning League Life.

FOX League’s expert team of analysts including greats Mal Meninga, Gorden Tallis, Matty Johns, Greg Alexander and current stars including Cooper Cronk and Luke Lewis will feature across the week’s NRL line-up.

  1. Watch AFL is $189 for a 12 month pass
Watch NRL is also $189 for a 12 month pass

That’s only $6.52 a week for a 25 round NRL season + 4 weeks of finals. This could have been mentioned in the article.

Also this cannot be accessed from within Australia, NZ, and Pacific Islands, it’s for those travelling or living outside of that area. In Australia there is foxtel and in NZ/Pacific there is Sky for watching every NRL game live.

      1. Hi David,
Thanks for the response. I appreciate if your source didn’t let you know that full season passes are available for much cheaper, as you mentioned you can only report on what you have been told.
For someone who lives overseas (or even someone in Australia who’s internet connection lives overseas via a VPN) the 12 month pass maybe worth it if you are only interested in 1 sport. For those on holidays $19 to watch all the games for that week is reasonable value. You couldn’t even goto 1 game for that.

Within Australia though and particularly if you are interested in a few sports as most people are, foxtel really aren’t asking much at $39 a month. That price is now available to satelite and cable subscribers too.

  2. Both Fox’s NRL and AFL streams are damn expensive compared to US sports (which in an international market, they are competing against).

NHL & MLB are somewhere around USD 120 for the entire season (with the price dropping for the rest of the season as the season progresses). That’s around USD 20 per month or $5 per week. And that includes playoffs, etc.

$19 per week? Pfft. I can live without it.

  3. Gee. I think $19 per week is pretty stiff, especially compared to the Foxtel Now Sports package (even thought that doesn’t include SoO and NRLGF, but includes hundreds of other sports), and the target markets are generally not a league strong hold. I would have thought $19 per month would have been the correct price point.
