iview gets Mandarin subtitles for Lunar New Year

ABC will add subtitles in Mandarin to select iview titles to mark the Lunar New Year.

As part of ABC’s push to be relevant to all Australians, these shows will offer subtitles from Friday Feb 16:

Back Roads: The Complete Series 1 – 3;
Australian Story (select episodes);
Four Corners (select episodes);
Catalyst (select episodes);
You Can’t Ask That: The Complete Series 1 – 2.

Last year, ABC iview attracted over 8.5m plays for preschool programs in Mandarin.

Rebecca Heap, ABC Head of Programming and Digital said: “As the national broadcaster, the ABC is committed to serving all Australians. We appreciate how culturally and linguistically diverse Australia is with more than one-fifth of Australians speaking a language other than English at home. Our preschool Mandarin programs have been a big hit on ABC KIDS iview amongst both Mandarin speaking households and English-speaking households keen to broaden their language awareness. We are excited to be able to extend our offering with our selection of subtitled ABC programs to now cater for all age groups.”

ABC KIDS will also broadcast a special curated day celebrating the Year of the Dog both on-air and on ABC KIDS iview.
