Online betting takes aim at Australian Spartan
"Novelty" betting has fun at the expense of Seven's new show. But wait....

Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has put Australian Spartan in its crosshairs after a pretty disappointing launch on Sunday.
It debuted with 816,000 viewers, less than half the numbers of Australian Ninja Warrior‘s premiere last year.
Posed as a “novelty bet” (but it won’t be a novelty to the folk at Seven), they are offering odds on the show not returning for a second series, Edwina Bartholomew and Hamish McLachlan being replaced and a second episode falling by over 97,000 viewers.
“Viewers really gave Spartan the thumbs down and the odds don’t look great for the show or the hosts surviving,’’ said Will Byrne from Sportsbet.
However TV Tonight hears whispers a second season may have already been filmed (including with Edwina & Hamish) so readers having any kind of flutter should participate wisely.
$1.80 Edwina and Hamish to be replaced as hosts for Season 2
$1.91 To Drop by over 97000 viewers in Episode 2
$2.20 Spartan to not return for a second series
$3.50 Moved from SEVEN to 7TWO, 7Mate or 7flix
$6.00 Moved to air on 7plus.com.au only
$10 Spartan to beat MAFS on Sunday
$12 Finale not to be shown on the Seven Network
$14 Wendell to move from Sideline to main commentary box

Seems like they are already cutting episodes. Just before the last ad break the graphic said ‘Heat 3’. Either that, or they are showing them out of order.
Heat 3 is next week, maybe it was a plug.
Surely it’s outright fraud to offer odds on events it is known will not happen.
I watched the first episode on 7Plus today, ready and wanting to enjoy it. I was really disappointed. The look, feel, pacing and editing is really drab. Wendall is an utterly loveable personality but terribly miscast. A shame because I really enjoy the spectacle that amazing athletes like these deliver. I don’t think I’ll be back for episode 2.
Let’s start our own guessing here? Around 750K for Ep 2.
Before I looked down at all those odds, I just knew that the biggest odds would be for something to do with Wendell.
Such odd behaviour – Who really cares that much? Do people bet on the ratings of TV shows in other countries?
Serves Seven right for another copycat. Let this be a lesson to all networks for lazy programming where they just expect viewers to rush to a show because they watched it on a similar show on another network.
Here’s a possibility. The show continues to nosedive and the second season gets added on to the end of the scheduled first to make an extended season 1.
I really enjoyed the show on Sunday and think it will lift.
