Cricket Australia and TEN execs have reportedly flow to the US to meet with CBS brass in an attempt to strike new deals.
During the last negotiations last Nine was forced to up its bid from $45m to about $80m for the international rights. TEN got the BBL rights for $20m and it is believed that CA is expecting multiples of this in the new deal, possibly by bringing in Foxtel as a co-broadcaster
Deals for the domestic and international rights are a long way from being finalised but according to The Australian, both Nine and TEN are Âreluctant to stump up the sort of money CA is hoping for.
There are also suggestions of extending BBL.
Cricket Australia is planning to play an expanded finals series across the first weekends of February, leaving the week nights free.
“We’re very keen to ensure the Big Bash League season finishes with a bang and reaches a nice climax in mid-February, or even later,” Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said.
Broadcasters, however, are not impressed with the idea of more matches or having cricket on when the traditional ratings period begins.

Would of been good if CBS was in control of TEN 12 months ago when AFL tv rights were being dicussed. TEN would of have Saturday twilight / night games.
Oh how I hope TEN keeps the BBL rights for many more seasons. The commentary team are great and make it so much more enjoyable. Channel 9 commentators are just too stale and boring nowadays unfortunately I think
The AFL,NRL,CA, etc can push so much before broadcasters will say “Enough is enough” we are not paying any more!
Why would Ten not want more BBL or BBL in ratings season? It’s one of their best performers much better than what they are airing at the moment.
Ever heard of the saying,’too much of a good thing.’ I don’t believe that extending it would be a good idea.
The BBL works because it is a short and sharp competition. If you extend it too much, you risk ruining it for good. The length of the school holidays is the perfect time for the comp to run with the final to fall on or around Australia Day.
The issue for was the scheduling whereby they would have a test or one dayer in between. Let it start n finish without interruptions
I would not be impressed either. It is already long enough as it is. Why should broadcasters have to shuffle their schedule to accomodate the cricket?
Tens coverage of the BBL was excellent. I prefer the BBL to normal cricket
