Schwarzenegger to star in Amazon western, Outrider.

Former Governor to star as a ruthless Federal Marshall who joins a deputy in a period manhunt.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will star in and executive produce an upcoming Western series, Outrider, in development from Amazon.

Billed as an ‘event series’ it will follow a deputy in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the late 1800s, tasked by a notorious judge with apprehending a legendary outlaw in the wilderness. The deputy is forced to partner with a ruthless Federal Marshall (Schwarzenegger) to make sure justice is properly served. No word as yet on the other key role.

Should the project move forward, it would mark Schwarzenegger’s first regular role in a drama series, having previously hosted one season of The Celebrity Apprentice.

The creative team includes Trey Callaway (Jack Ryan, APB, Rush Hour, CSI: NY) and Mark Montgomery (Jack Ryan).

  1. I enjoyed Netflix’s western Godless which perhaps was not the hit it could be without some big name stars, but this Amazon production may change all that with Schwarzenegger in a leading role that no doubt will look comfortingly familiar to fans. It will be interesting to know the production budget too as Arnold does like his money and having some creative input in his roles.
