Sophie Monk: Romance ended outside Reality TV bubble

Former Bachelorette sets the record straight on her short-lived romance with Stu Laundy.

Former Bachelorette Sophie Monk has revealed that she gave her romance with Stu Laundy her “best shot” but it did not last long once she had emerged from the Reality TV bubble.

“Once you go out into the real world, I just realised we’re so different,” she said.

“You’re in a bubble and you come out of that, (but) we’re very different people.”

Speaking to A Current Affair, Monk revealed the pair officially split while holidaying together in Canada and denies ending the relationship via Instagram.

“I think when you go on holiday with someone you really get to know someone,” she said.

“I didn’t break up via Instagram … I’m not just going to announce it on Instagram.”

When quizzed over their compatibility, Monk was coy on the details noting “there’s children involved”.

“You clash when you’ve got different morals,” she hinted, before adding she was very “disappointed” in Laundy.

She also acknowledged staging intimate photos kissing Laundy because of the pressure from paparazzi.

“Every day I was getting burnt for not being affectionate, so there’s paparazzi at the airport and I was like, ‘kiss me,’” she said.

Monk, who will host Love Island for Nine later this year, indicated she still wants to start a family.

“I’d love to be a mum, I think I’m going to have to freeze eggs at this point which I’m willing to do and I’m looking into right now.”

  1. Sure, finding a bf would have been nice, but Sophie did this for her career first and foremost.
They were together for exactly 3 months after the finale aired, which sounds just like a contract stipulation.
Are people still this naive about reality tv? Really??

  2. Remember he pestered her for a date long before the show and she really didn’t know him until the ‘honeymoon’ just as in Married at First Sight.

It’s a numbers game and Sophie just has to keep going.

  3. I never bought into this show. While it was good ratings wise, when you take a look at Sophie’s relationships record (easily found via a search engine), the odds of a relationship lasting were very low. It’s no surprise they split and maybe she needs to clear up some of the ambiguity after this interview. Speculation and rumour will just lead to fake news….!!!!

  4. Really hope the fertility clinic have told Sophie there’s not much point in freezing her eggs at this stage, 38 year old eggs are pretty degraded by then and freezing can damage them more, she should just go for it on her own! Love Sophie and hope she does find what she’s looking for both relationship and childrenwise. I had a baby on my own at 41 and haven’t looked back ?

    1. “Morals” doesn’t always relate to sex. It relates to many other things. The children are from his first marriage, as mentioned several times during the show. The “morals”, “disappointment” and “children” could all relate to each other. Should she explain further to stop people making wrong assumptions? No, because no matter what she may add some people will ‘assume’ more.

      1. Obviously they all relate to each other , we all no where the children come from ..It’s still a diss on his character without explaining, not fair game , low blow
