UK actress Emma Chambers, best known for The Vicar of Dibley and Notting Hill, has died, aged 53.
She died from natural causes on Wednesday evening and would be “greatly missed”, her agent John Grant said.
Chambers played Alice Tinker, a village church verger, in The Vicar of Dibley between 1994 and 2007, winning a British Comedy Award for best TV actress.
Star Dawn French paid tribute to a “very bright spark and the most loyal and loving friend anyone could wish for”.
“I will miss her very much”, she said on Twitter.
In 1999 she played Honey Thacker in the hit romantic comedy, Notting Hill.
Star Hugh Grant spoke of his sadness on social media, adding: “She brought laughter and joy to many.”
Other well-wishers included Emma Freud, the partner of Richard Curtis, who created both the film and the TV comedy.
Her other credits include How Do You Want Me?, Take a Girl Like You, Martin Chuzzlewit, Drop the Dead Donkey and part of the voice cast for the animated The Wind in the Willows and Little Robots.
Jon Plowman, former head of comedy at the BBC, described Chambers as “bright and clever”.
“Emma was a gifted comic actress who made any part she played – no matter how ditzy or other worldly – look easy.”

I read she died of a suspected heart attack – tragic.
Loved her character in Vicar – she was adorable and truly one of a kind.

Her character Alice in Vicar Of Dibley was so good. So sad at such a young age.
