Vale: Vic Damone

US crooner Vic Damone, best known for hits in the 1950s, has died aged 89.

He passed away in Florida, with family by his side.

The crooner was known for his silky-toned voice on songs such as ‘You’re Breaking My Heart’ and ‘On the Street Where You Live’ in the 1940s & 50s.

Damone was not only a recording artist, but he also dipped his toes into acting, appearing in The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Rebel, Jericho, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, The Danny Thomas Hour plus films such as Kismet, Viva Las Vegas, Hit the Deck and Hell to Eternity.

In 1962, he hosted his own television variety show The Vic Damone Show.

He was once described by Frank Sinatra as having “the best pipes in the business.”
