Academy Awards 2018: guide

Your guide to presenters, performers & broadcast of the 90th Oscars.

Late last year Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel declared, “If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show!”

On Monday the Academy Awards gets the chance to redeem itself after last year’s infamous La La Land bungle. Returning host Jimmy Kimmel should have plenty of gags to mock the historic moment. Updated: Warren Beatty & Faye Dunaway are returning to present Best Picture.

But no doubt months of harassment, Harvey Weinstein and #metoo stories will dominate the night (which is good news for Donald Trump, less in the direct line of fire).

Last year’s Best Actor winner’s Casey Affleck has reportedly decided not to attend the ceremony due to his sexual harassment allegations while E! host Ryan Seacrest will front red carpet coverage amid current controversy.

Notable amongst nominations this year, are Meryl Streep’s twenty-first, John Williams’ fifty-first, Yance Ford as the first openly transgender director to be nominated, Rachel Morrison as the first woman to be nominated for Best Cinematography (Mudbound), and Christopher Plummer at 88 surpassing Titanic‘s Gloria Stuart as the oldest actor nominated -for his belated inclusion into All the Money in the World.

  1. Are all these award shows even relevant anymore. My understanding is most fail to even pull any reasonable ratings these days………they appear to be so manufactured and PC that the awards are probably based on that and not actual talent and artistic merit.
