AFL boosts Seven, TEN tops entertainment

Ratings: AFL opens strong for Seven, while TEN scores its best night of the week.

With AFL back in the mix Thursday was a night of staggered schedules, but a winner for Seven.

The match pulled 664,000 in 5 cities, up 12% on the 2017 season opener with the same teams. Together with NRL (463,000) the night was low in terms of overall numbers, with no show over 850,000 viewers.

Gogglebox topped the entertainment shows at 610,000 for TEN while Show Me the Movie debuted to 545,000.  That was easily TEN’s best night this week, and any show rating above The Project is good news.

  1. i enjoyed Seven’s AFL telecast i enjoyed the updated and refreshed graphics they look a lot more polished. although i wish the score graphics were put on top right hand corner not bottom. i enjoyed Seven Sport having a chat to the lead Umpire at Half time, personally i think people want to know why decisions are made and why they are not. As for HD coverage of AFL on 7Sport i dont mind the current setup. 7 has HD broadcasts in most states now. I at times think the outrage is overblown. Some people forget that some leagues dont get live coverage at all.NRL on Nine is LIVE but not in HD in southern states. So if the sport is popular in traditional states then its in HD if not than back luck. I know its not fair but thats life.

      1. Well if SBS can do it Seven why can’t you have 2 HD channels!! oh thats right forgot we need the racing channels I heard you are trying to put another racing channel on?

  2. if 9 want to keep the nrl footy i say they do this;
    either give the hosting gig to TheMarn when goes on maternity leave
    give it Beau, or ask SamSquires(who hosts the broncos insider) to do it. or fatty

  3. I think Ten would be delighted with those numbers at the moment… a small positive for them in the grand scheme of things… I guess…

    The NRL Footy Show is gooooooone… that is just embarrassing tbh
