Benji is back

If you were around in the '70s then you surely remember Benji...

If you were around in the ’70s then you surely remember 1974’s Benji movie, in which a scruffy pooch won the hearts of everybody who watched it.

Next week Netflix premieres a remake, by Brandon Camp, son of the original director, Joe Camo.

Aussie Angus Sampson also has a role.

A modern day retelling of the classic, the story of Benji follows one orphaned puppy and Carter and Frankie, two capricious New Orleans school kids who strike up a friendship with the tenacious street dog. When danger befalls them and they end up kidnapped by robbers who are in over their heads, Benji and his scruffy sidekick come to the rescue.

Friday March 16 on Netflix.

  1. Be a good time to revive The Littlest Hobo, from the 1958 film to the 1963 – 1965 and 1979 – 1985 TV series, still my favourite canine related show. Rin Tin Tin and Lassie were okay but The Littlest Hobo (London the wonder dog) really touched an accord with me, guess as he moved from town to town it was that selfless unconditional love thing for complete strangers that worked for me.

“There’s a voice that keeps on calling me
Down the road is where I’ll always be
Every stop I make, I’ll make a new friend
Can’t stay for long, just turn around and I’m gone again.
Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.
Down this road, that never seems to end,
Where new adventure, lies just around the bend.
So if you want to join me for a while
Just grab your hat, come travel light – that’s hobo style.”
