Chris Lilley to film Netflix comedy

No longer with ABC, Chris Lilley to film a new comedy on the Gold Coast for Netflix.

Chris Lilley will film a new comedy series for Netflix on the Gold Coast.

Lilley’s previously series have been ABC productions and co-productions with HBO / BBC, but the new untitled series has been secured by the streaming giant.

“I am delighted to have enticed Chris Lilley and producer Laura Waters to Queensland,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“The series will employ up to 250 Queensland cast and extras, plus around 100 Queensland crew.

“The project will also support two local screen practitioners, who will have the opportunity to work on the series to further develop their professional skills.

“Queensland’s continued ability to attract high-quality film and television production is a testament to our local screen industry.”

10 episodes will film on the Gold Coast between March and June. No further details have been released, but there have been reports the reclusive Lilley has been recently ‘people-watching’ on the Gold Coast.

Lilley’s last ABC co-production, Jonah from Tonga, was in 2014.

  1. He makes brave work, but for that reason it’s very polarizing, with a short shelf-life to inappropriate.

I felt Summer Heights High had a reasonable balance.

  2. We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High were excellent, but everything else has ranged from boring to painful. He needs a fresh idea that’s funny without being provocative purely for the sake of it.

  3. I’m afraid Chris hasn’t given us anything new since his first, clever, original series – Australian of the Year – or whatever it was called.
Hope the rest has done him good.
