The National Film & Sound Archive has made available rare and classic clips from The Mike Walsh Show.
The series began on 0-10 in 1973, then moved to Nine Network in 1977 and ran until 1985.
Mike Walsh ruled daytime TV hosting iconic names including Bette Midler, Jane Fonda, John Cleese, Lauren Bacall, Johnny Cash.
But there were memorable locals such as Sister Stansilaus Zgrajewski, a musical nun from Queensland whose first appearance caused such a sensation that she was invited back the next day. You can see her appearance here (click on Expand).
The NFSA acquired a collection of nearly 1500 episodes of the show in 2006.

Love the Midday show….also loved when Kerry Anne did it…
A television legend. Mike Walsh was the king of daytime TV. And Graham Kennedy and Don Lane were kings of prime time. A shame that live tv is dead today.
Just viewing those few snippets of The Mike Walsh Show illustrates how much Australian Television has changed…and not for the better. There is something to be said for live television. Something else I noted was how relaxed the international guests were. Nowadays they’d have their army of publicists standing on the sideline in the event the interviewer would step out of line in questioning. Everyone is too guarded today.
