Oscars omits In Memoriam names

Even some Oscar winners were overlooked in this year's In Memoriam tribute.

The Academy Awards In Memoriam section may have included Chuck Berry but it left out some significant names yesterday.

Actors John Mahoney, Robert Guillaume, Jim Nabors, Powers Boothe, John Hillerman, Reg E. Cathey, Della Reese, Rose Marie and Adam West were not mentioned.

Some of those names may arguably be Television stars, best remembered by the Emmys, but where were John Gavin, Nanette Fabray, and Miguel Ferrer?

Dorothy Malone, who won an Oscar for Written on the Wind (1956), was not mentioned in the segment.

Glen Campbell starred in the 1969 film True Grit and was nominated for best original song, I’m Not Going to Miss You, in 2015.

And director Tobe Hooper of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist fame was also overlooked.

  1. I watched a fair chunk of the Oscars, jeez its so preachy and full of folk ready to spout off, but not put themselves up for election. The Frances McDormand tirade towards the end was dire and the film that got best picture…!!!! are they trying to stop folk going to the cinema? At least the Black Panther crew are doing a good job..

  2. Wasnt Tobe Hooper suspected/charged about something to do with sexual assault against a person under 18? Seems like the obvious reason he was omitted

    1. Tobe Hooper was never suspected or charged with sexual assault as far as I could check. In fact last year he was a victim of assault by an ex girlfriend.
Are you perhaps thinking of another horror director Victor Salva who was convicted of child molestation?
